about alexander
I am the Director and Principal Therapist at On Point Therapy in Birkenhead Point, Auckland. Setting up this practice is a culmination of over two decades of commitment to health education, behaviour change facilitation, and specialist academic study in the fields of psychotherapy, counselling, education, and human sexuality. Deciding to pursue my passion for relational therapies has led to some incredible opportunities, including being one of only a handful of practitioners in New Zealand with a Masters in Sexology, and a qualification from the Internal Family Systems Institute (IFSI).
My practice is underpinned by a sex-positive, person-centred approach that draws from developmental, systemic, and relational conceptualisation. Acknowledging a concern through this lens encourages consideration of our past, internal processes, and interactions with others and the environment around us. I acknowledge how easy it is to get lost in jargon, and actively seek to find a tailored balance between evidence-based practice, intuition, and language that lands.
When not with clients or buried in the latest book on the human experience, I spend much of my time with family
- in particular my twin daughters, partner Kellie, and our Cocker Spaniel, Benson.
I truly believe that thriving relationships are the outcome of ongoing and intentional co-creation with our partner(s), and look forward to a future where seeking support for this is just a normal part of healthy relationship development.

and introducing matthew
I work with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, from low mood and emotional overwhelm to trauma, grief, chronic illness, and simply feeling stuck. My background spans both NGOs and private practice, and I bring a steadiness to this work that comes from sitting with people through some of their hardest moments. As a registered ACC Sensitive Claims provider, I have a particular focus on supporting survivors of trauma, alongside extensive work in grief, loss, and anxiety. I also work closely with people navigating chronic illness, and with men facing emotional and relational challenges that often go unspoken.
My approach is integrative, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic, humanistic, and mindfulness-based practice, shaped around what each person actually needs rather than a fixed method. Whether the work is building a sense of safety, understanding long-standing patterns, healing from past hurt, or finding a way to live well alongside a health condition, the aim is the same: to help people meet their life with more clarity and more self-compassion.
Outside client work, I draw on the grounded perspective of over thirty years of marriage and raising three adult children. Life rarely goes to plan, but it's a good deal easier to navigate with the right support beside you. You don't need to have things figured out before you reach out.
